The Magic Detective Podcast

Prepare for an extremely informative podcast on Houdini's Library which resides in the Harry Ransom Center in Austin Texas. Also, Dr. Eric Colleary, the curator of the exhibit has a new book out, also called Houdini's Library. 

Pay close attention, you'll learn a lot. And forgive me for saying Smithsonian, instead of Library of Congress. I was having a senior moment, lol. I know the difference and have been to both!

Magic historian, collector, author, Charles Green is my guest today talking about his book, Exposing Houdini. He shares some things here that you won't find on any other interview, anywhere.

Charles Morritt was a very prolific inventor of magic illusions. He created some very stunning effects in the late 1800s right into the early 20th Century. He is also credited as the man who helped Houdini make an elephant vanish!

Houdini thought he was great, and he never met the man. Houdini was 4 when Heller died. Robert Heller could have been one of the great piano virtuosos but he chose magic instead. In fact, he sorta chose both. And this is his story. I think Heller is more popular among music historians than magic historians, but I am hoping to change that. Feb 7th, 2019 is the 19th Anniversary of the passing of magic icon Doug Henning. In this episode, I share some of my own recollections of Doug's specials and memories of having seen him perform live.
